West Kirby / Leasowe Via Mersey tunnel 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I've always used the M56/M53 route (from Manchester), but looking at a map, it may be a lot quicker to go M62 and use the Mersey tunnel (2/3rds distance)

However, if there is congestion as the roads go through Liverpool or a queue at the tunnel then my plan for a little extra windsurfing time is ruined.

What's it normally like ?

I've never had any issue with using the tunnels, but then I tend not to have to use them at peak times.

However coming through at 4.30 last Friday it was clear (B'head tunnel)

Tunnels only ever blocked at peak times (or if the B**tards have closed it for 'repairs') but it is £1.40 each way (if you're in a car). Liverpool on the other hand is an entirely different matter. The M62 in is usually ok (except at morning peak time, ditto for evening peak) but the London Road can be horrible. It would be worth comparing the distance v the time (and including the extra £2.80 and risk of car-jacking )... but I can't be a**ed as I live on the Wirral

Just as the other guys have said, but also watch out for home matches, Edge Lane with Liverpool at home hour before kick off and an hour after forget it (Plus remove your Premiership Champions 2009 Sticker or MU15 GOD license plate)

Coming from Warrington and living close to the M62 and knowing Liverpool well (and I can leave my LFC sticker on), I usually do it in about 50 mins, obviously outside peak times. Never had a hold up.Wallasey tunnel best (and closer)as they don't usually close it all as it's 2 tunnels.

I come from Stockport and generally do it in about 50-55 minutes using M56 route. I tried the tunnel but you get delayed getting to/from Liverpool to the M62. I tried it a couple of times and was fustrated as I sat at the many traffic lights getting into/out of Liverpool
