Any more Dahab tips? 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 13
Howdy y'all, long time no posts!! Distracted by the multitude of sailing spots on the south coast combined with the busiest job in the world have kept me quiet!!
Anyway, me and the wife are going to Dahab in August- does anyone have any tips about who will give the better service/ access to the best saling spots Harry Nass/ Mistral/ or other? We have really cheap accom booked so I am just looking at kit hire and perhaps a bit of tuition! Any tips will be appreciated.
I hope all you boys and girls have been getting out as often as you should and hope to hear from you soon!
Ta!

Hi Slim

I'm a big fan of Club Dahab. Well organised, yet chilled and by far the best social scene in Dahab (I don't just mean late night partying there. The daytime chill and chat atmosphere is great too). They've also got a good selection of kit and use the British 'use what board suits you for the conditions' approach rather than the German 'book one board for the week' approach. The tuition is pretty good too.

'Hairy Ass' seems to be generally well spoken of too, though run on more Germanic lines. So if you plan to sail in a pair of leopardskin speedos, a bandana and a porno tache, that could be worth a look

Slimster,

You'll have a smashing time! I recommend Club Vass, too. We stopped with Bubble a couple of years ago and although we used our own gear, the setup is top notch and the instructors are all good.

All the centres are in a line on the beach and all have easy access, literally a few ateps. My top tip is to avoid the lagoon with the Germans and gusty wind, and head to Baby Bay, a little further out. Here you have a better wind, super flat water, or head through the keyhole to the open sea for the rolling swell. Its not great out there, but occasionally you'll get a good lump and a good jump!

You can get a taxi from the town to the beach for next to nothing, but be prepared to haggle and haggle good! Ask the guys at Club Vass for going rates on taxis. Also, check out the french/german bakery for breakfast, do the Hilton breakfast at least once, snorkel at the blue hole which is breathtaking, don't eat the seafood curry at Funny Mummys or you'll get a funny tummy (I did - twice!), and when you do, because you probably will, get the little blue tablets as they work a treat!

Anyway, have a good one and take plenty of suncream and a hat as it'll be super hot!

Stu

Slim,
We went last august, and it was scorchio, but the wind was up and had a great time! If you have a snorkel, take it (and don't bother buying yet another one out there). We went with club mistral last year, who were good, really helpful guys, but don't do tuition, the club dahab setup did look seriously good. Depending on where you stay, I seem to remember the harry nass centre was at the end of the beach, which is a bit of a walk from most the accommodation - correct me if I'm wrong guys! Totally agree with stu's advice ref where to sail - it's a stunning place!
