Thought I'd start a new thread as I'm so tired I can't find the old one.....

A bit more success tonight....

I've can transfer all the comments across and asign them to the right stories !

I've changed the _script_ so that forum posts transferred get the bbcode removed - they look ok to me so far.

The _script_ now also puts peoples usernames into the name field if it was previously blank.

all private messages can now be transferred.

Still plenty to do - Jose is right the graphics need some work but currently I'm concentrating on content - you can't display it nicely if it's not there.....

night night

Hi again guys.

please read through to the end.....

got a bit lost with what needed doing - mainly due to very erratic personal life - Sorry !! with that said I may as well expand and say that personally life is a bit hectic at the moment so beware/patient

so I wrote a quick excel spreadsheet (seemed like the neatest layout) to briefly sum up where I'm at with it all.

I'll put it in the downloads section.

I might protect it but don't honestly see the need.

tonight I wrote two modules to display the most popular and latest links for the new site.

I'm thinking about some other big changes as well..........

Some time ago I bought a large chunk of webspace as the current hosts charged money for each domain even though some were very small etc.. and they weren't/aren't very flexible or supportive.

so I am thinking of carrying out my origianl intention of moving iwindsurf to a new host (tremble tremble....)

I won't do this without everyone's support - so here's what it might entail......

To change the server details of your domain takes (on average) 48hrs. In that time there's no garuantee whether a visitor will be delivered to the old or new site (think of updating internet telephone directories) so I would likely - warn everyone well in advance, put up exactly the same holding page on new and old sites, wait 1 or 2 days, start new site and alter holding page on old site to redirect to IP address of new site.

Total damage = two days (weekend ?) down on site.

Other major impact - all persons with mailboxes lose current content - personally I think this shouldn't be an issue with sufficient warning.

(person with largest inbox currently is Ernie - I'll sort him out........)

Just as before it's vital we preview the site and test - in coincidence I bought iwindsurf.info & iwindsurf.biz - I can easily set these up as new sites on the new server and practice the transfer. (I can password protect the test)

Thoughts/input appreciated.

No comments about moving servers ?

okey dokey....

Made a module last night to look at recent reviews.

Also made some changes to the reviews layout - wasn't as easy as I thought mainly because the guy who programmed it is french - The main code is the same but when he's named variables they're french - titre, auteur etc....

Still some tidying up of that module to do, and th erest of the to-do list of course

before i go to bed I'll also have a quick alteration of the two main blocks, forums last 5 posts and last ads so they look similar and better....

Last night I changed the theme so that it's variable width.

I need to change the graphics - I did the front page one but not the others.

I also updated to the newest version of Mambo just released - nice.
