Bank holiday weekend? 15 Years, 11 Months ago Karma: 13
Anyone spotted anywhere worth travelling to this weekend (3/4/5 May)? The forecast in the North West looks pretty 'pants'. Anyone holding out hope for somewhere?

Don't give up hope just yet! We may get a bit of a SE force 5, which opens up a few spots...

Also Monday is looking pretty good for a cheeky surf, so if you've ever fancied having a go or getting yourself set up, this weekend is the perfect opportunity. Check out Sail and Ski in Chester for some really well priced surfboard packages, of west coast surf in Abersoch. You won't regret it!

See you out there somewhere!

Thanks Stu. Theyr.tv and XCweather both seem to suggest F4 (or less), but of course that does still mean we're in with a chance. What would be your top tips for SE spots then?

The best I can come up with is Hell's Mouth ( based on beach guides. I've never actually sailed there). Anyone else got any good ideas?

Hi TwoFish,
just read your log from Hells Mouth - what was the surfing like there on Sunday?
Give me a shout next time your going there as I wouldn't mind giving it a go.
Towyn is supposed to work in a SE or SSE as well but probably lighter wind than Hells Mouth

I popped over to Hells Mouth on sunday morning and got there about high tide and like twofish decided that the talent wasn't enough to give it a go. Not sure the surfing would have been particularly good though - there were a couple of blokes in shorties playing in the shore break, but it would probably have improved on the dropping tide. That said I've had a few excellent surf sessions there. On the occasions I have windsurfed there the shore breaks not been too bad.

I ended up at Dinas Dinlle, but by the time I'd rigged up the wind went to nothing, so i thought a wasted trip.

As I was about to pack up when a bloke turned up in his van and was an absolute star and first lent me his stand-up paddle board and then his long board. Much appreciated and many thanks. Stuart I think his name was. I owe you a beer.

Not classsic conditions but it turned out to be a much better day than it had started. And i enjoyed the stand-up board a lot more than i thought i might - must add to xmas list. I was still aching on Tuesday though.

Cheers again Stuart.

later
bob

I'm not a smurfer, so am not really sure what makes for good smurfing conditions. It did surprise me that there weren't more out though. There seemed to be quite a few fannying around on the beach / in the car park, and quite a few surf kayak things in the car park too. However all I saw on the water was a couple of bodyboarders.

Photography is not my strongpoint, but you can just about see one of them diving here:

I'm all for meeting up next time the conditions are suitable there, and indeed for other roud trips where the wind is in a 'funny' (non-Rhossi) direction.
